Dubai: Some of the top professional and amateur boxers will be in action at the ‘Clash of Champions’ Arab Boxing Championships to be held at the Dubai Police Officers Club in Al Garhoud on October 19.
The seven-fight card will consist of three bouts involving amateur fighters, while the other four will involve professional boxers from across the Arab world and Europe.
The amateur boxers are from Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Morocco, the UAE and even India, while the professionals will represent the best of talent from the Arab world, including Sudan, Algeria, Mauritania, Egypt and Libya, along with champions from Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium.
Organised by Alpha Domino Communications under the aegis of the Dubai Sports Council along with Fiba the world governing body for boxing and with the support of Dubai Police, the championships will bring all exponents of Arab boxing at one venue under the title “No Drugs ..Yes for Sports”.

“Arab boxing stands for strength, prowess, intelligence, skill, thinking and concentration all rolled into one. And to have some of the best fighters be in Dubai shows the commitment of the organisers to further enhance our reputation on the international sporting stage,” said Faisal Al Monai, Director-General of Alpha Domino.
“The main aim of staging such a championship is to enhance the sport of Arab boxing in the region. Therefore promoting the sport here is important as it is not just dependent on the boxer, but also on the administrative staff, referees, judges and coaches,” added Ali Al Haideri, the organiser of the competition.
“We don’t want to just concentrate on the actual fight night, but it is even more important that we pay attention to the aspect of promoting Arab boxing.”
The amateur fights will consist of three rounds of two minutes each, while the professionals will slug it out for ten rounds of two minutes each.
