Nariman Talib Mallalah won the women's professional shooting title in the Armed Forces Officers Club's Ramadan Games here on Monday night.

The Abu Dhabi policewoman marked her return to the UAE national squad when she pipped UAE No 1 Shamma Al Muhairy by two points.

Nariman tallied 275 while Shamma scored 275 points while in third place was Sumayya Saleh with 267 points.

The action in football reached a high point as the 43-team event whittled down to the final eight.

Leading the quarterfinals was Algerian Community team, who edged out Rotana Hotels 3-2 in a highly competitive final. Belarousi Houry scored the match-winner in the second half of extra time after the teams had shared four goals. Earlier, Nouridine Bendida scored both the goals for the winners in regular time.

In two other matches, the Amiri Guards defeated the Capital Police 3-1 while NDC eliminated Zayed Bin Sultan Bin Khalifa Team 5-2.

NDC's goals came from Rafat Abdul Hamad, Saeed Saeed Mir (2), Waleed Salim and Esmail Kalath while Mohammad Ebrahim and Ashraf Omar scored for the losers.

Exciting matches

Consultants Group dumped the Marines 8-1, Abu Dhabi Educational Zone whipped Team Fouad Khalil 7-3, Transport and Supplies drowned the Navy 4-0 and Awafi shot down the Al Ain Stars 6-2.

Land Army also made it to the last eight with a 5-2 win over Air Force. Samir Ebrahim of Al Shaab and former UAE player and Ittihad Club's Hassan Saeed were among the scorers for the winners. Hassan Saeed and Ahmad Abdullah scored twice for Land Army.

"The matches are really getting very exciting and we have seen a surge in the number of fans coming to watch. Every night we have had a special raffle draw for the spectators and many attractive prizes are on offer," said Col. Mohammad Al Bushlaibi, Head of the Ramadan Games Organising Committee.

The 9th edition of the AFOC Ramadan Games is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Meanwhile, the action in the professional bowling event reached the final stage. Former world champion Mohammad Khalifa Al Qubeisi and seven others will battle it out in a stepladder format for the top prize.

There will be no football matches tonight due to the AFC Champions Football League final between Al Ain and Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad.
