Dubai: Top seed Omar Noaman from Sharjah won the President Cup Tournament at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club.

Grandmaster Salem A. R. Saleh, who was the defending champion, did not participate as he was away playing in the World Cup in Tromso, Norway.

Noaman, who is an international master, took the title with 8.5 points after nine rounds of competition. Faisal Abdullah of Abu Dhabi Chess Club was runner up with 7.5 points while Ebrahim Mohammad Khouri, also from Abu Dhabi Chess Club, finished third with seven points. Mansoor Abbas clinched fourth place with five points.

Mahdi Abdul Rahim the Technical Secretary of the UAE Chess Federation, said: “The tournament was held smoothly as per FIDE rules and is a FIDE rated chess event.”

Saud Mohammad, the Manager of UAE Chess Federation, said: “The tournament showcased the best talents in UAE and provided a unique opportunity for the budding chess players to hone their skills.”
