Dubai: Shaikha Shamsa Bint Hashr Al Maktoum has said that the sixth Dubai International Ladies Volleyball Championships (DILVC) has contributed in spreading ladies volleyball in the UAE.

"The DILVC has achieved its goals and was very successful. Our local teams have benefitted and gained experience by playing with world class teams from different parts of the world. This will reflect positively on our players' standards," said Shaikha Shamsa to the UAE media.

Shaikha Shamsa, who is a member of the UAE Volleyball Association's board of directors and ladies committee chairperson and president of the DILVC organising committee, claimed that ladies volleyball in the UAE needed a lot of hard work.

She praised the efforts of the UAE volleyball association. "The UAE volleyball association is doing well to spread ladies volleyball in the country. I think the DILVC is developing and every year it is better than the previous one."

Shaikha Shamsa thanked the tournament's committees who were behind the great success the sixth edition achieved.

"I take this opportunity to thank the referees who officiated in the sixth edition. There were 18 referees officiating the matches, they did a great job and were a main factor in the championships success," said Shaikha Shamsa.

In the semifinals matches played late Monday night, Al Wasl B team defeated Al Wasl A 3-1 (13-25, 26-24, 25-20 and 25-8). In the second semifinal Azerbaijan defeated Zubas of Italy 3-1 (21-25, 27-25, 25-10 and 25-23).
