Yahya Mohammed Saleh of Dubai defeated overnight leader FIDE master Ahmed Ishaq to emerge the sole leader of the under-16 National Junior Chess Championship being held at the Gulf Beach Hotel.

Saleh has five points at the end of the sixth round. Ahmed Ishaq of Dubai, Omar Abdul Wahab and Abdulrahman Ahmed of Ajman are trailing by half a point.

In under-12 section, Abdullah Mohammed Marzouqi of Abu Dhabi moved to the second spot with five points while Hussain Abdullah Hussain of Sharjah is in the third spot with 4.5 points.

Salem A.R. Saleh defeated Abdulaziz Ibrahim of Dubai in a Pirc defence lasting 19 moves. Salem won a piece and a pawn up and Abdulaziz resigned when he lost the queen to a tactical combination. In the under-14 event, Marwan Abdul Wahab of Ajman topped the table with 5.5 points.

FIDE master Ahmed Abbas Khouri of Abu Dhabi is in the second spot with five points, while Hamed Abdul Razzaq of Dubai and FIDE master Ibrahim Mohammed Khouri of Abu Dhabi have 4.5 points each.

FIDE masters Saeed Ishaq of Dubai And Salem A.R. Saleh of Sharjah shared the lead with 5.5 points.
