Dubai: Prime Star and Team Victor B won respective Group A and B titles in the second annual Shuttle Time Dubai Badminton Club Championships at Dubai Sports World last Friday.

Team Yonex went into the Group A final as favourites after beating Prime Star to top the pool, but Prime Star pulled off a major upset to then beat them 5-0 in the final to win a star coaching session during the Dubai World Superseries Finals to be held at the Hamdan Sports Complex, December 14-18. In the Group B final Team Victor B came back from 2-0 down against NSNL SD-B to win 3-2. Both winning teams received season passes to the Dubai World Superseries Finals.

Over 160 players from 15 teams took part in the five-week tournament with five games in every match split into; men’s singles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles, women’s doubles and over-40s masters doubles formats.

Dubai badminton development manager and tournament director Jaffer Ebrahim said: “This is the second edition of the tournament and we are pleased that it’s again been very successful and popular with the players. There’s been a lot of excitement for the five weeks throughout the summer, and the standard of play is definitely benefiting from the improvement in coaching, with so many of the club coaches attending the BWF Coaching Courses organised by Shuttle Time Dubai over the past year.”

The tournament was held as part of the Shuttle Time Dubai grassroots development programme that looks to ensure a legacy from Dubai’s four-year hosting of the World Superseries Finals every December from 2014 to 2017.
