Dubai: The New Indian Model School (NIMS) of Dubai defeated Abu Dhabi's Indian Islahi School to win the CBSE inter school volleyball tournament.

The victory in the tournament, which was held at the Abu Dhabi Indian School, means NIMS qualify for the National CBSE tournament, which will be held in India next month.

NIMS will compete against top teams from across different areas of India and the best teams from Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

All the teams will assemble in Haryana and battle for supremacy in the National CBSE Championship title, which will be held from December 3 to 8.

Mohammad Abdul Khadar Nishtar, the coach of the NIMS school team, said: "It is indeed a great honour for our school to have qualified for this prestigious tournament.

"It is after fours years that we have qualified to play in India and we have a strong team to meet the challenge."

Nishtar said the team's success was down to systematic training.

"We have floodlit volleyball courts in the school and it helps us to provide coaching and train after school hours. We pick the tall and lanky boys and provide them intensive coaching," he said.

"Our training for the trip to India is in full swing and we plan to stage an inter school tournament from November 26 to 30 in our school.

"This tournament will also provide good practice for our team before departure to India," said coach Nishtar.

NIMS coach Nishtar said it was a great honour to have qualified for the National CBSE tournament, which will be held in India next month.
