Abu Dhabi: Mubadala Development Company, the Abu Dhabi-based investment and development company, announced on Monday its partnership with the Abu Dhabi Tour, the cycling extravaganza which is scheduled to take place from October 20-23.

The partnership, which aims to encourage members of the UAE community to develop an interest in cycling and adopt an active lifestyle, includes cooperation on two community cycling competitions in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, taking place in the lead-up to and after the Abu Dhabi Tour.

Mubadala’s partnership with the Abu Dhabi Tour will also include an educational initiative focusing on familiarising students with the history of the bicycle, benefits of cycling and safety on the road.

At the end of each one-hour, bike-related class, students will be invited to paint a helmet, with the winner of the best helmet awarded with a children’s bicycle.

Participating students and their families will be invited to attend the Abu Dhabi Tour final stage race and closing event on Sunday, October 23 at Yas Marina Circuit.

“Our partnership with Mubadala comes at the perfect time as all eyes are focused on Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Tour,” Arif Al Awani, Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s General Secretary, said. “We are keen to have active partnerships with government entities and departments in order to develop community sports in Abu Dhabi.”

He added: “The participation of Mubadala in two community cycling events is another opportunity to enhance Mubadala’s community outreach programme, and I am confident this partnership will grow to higher levels in order to achieve and realise the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding between Mubadala and ADSC. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with Mubadala even further in the future”

Khalid Al Qubaisi, Group Chief Human Capital Officer and Community Wellbeing Ambassador at Mubadala, said: “Our partnership with Abu Dhabi Tour aims to strengthen members of the community’s interest in cycling, and encourage them to adapt a healthy and active lifestyle. We are delighted to be part of this well-established event, and I am confident this will enhance our current community outreach programme.”

Mubadala’s partnership with Abu Dhabi Tour, cooperation on cycling competitions and the educational initiative is part of its community outreach programme, which also includes tennis, long-distance running and football.

This partnership falls under Mubadala’s recent MoU with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, which strengthens and expands its community outreach program. The agreement also includes the expansion of the Mubadala Football Tournament — renamed as Mubadala Community Football League — from a one-week tournament to a seven-month-long league with close to 800 players potentially taking part, and the expansion of the Mubadala Community Tennis Cup season, which will run for three weeks.
