Dubai: For the first time in its seventh-year involvement with the event, the All National Liberty Racing Team has announced that it will be entering two out of the three categories in this year's UAE Desert Challenge - upping the ante as international and local teams battle for a podium finish in the desert rally.

Formerly known as Liberty Rally Team, the Liberty Racing Team will be competing across the six-day event for top honours in the Moto category as well as the previously entered Auto category.

With two cars that have been specially engineered by Liberty Motor Sports, and the latest Kawasaki Motorcycles and Quads, Liberty Racing Team aims to add to the string of awards it has acquired at past events.

"Just as the sport is continuing to attract a larger, more dedicated following in the region, so is our commitment and involvement growing.

"As such, we are delighted to announce the expansion of our participation to include the Moto category, with a strong line-up of two desert bikes and one quad," said Shaikh Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Al Qasimi, the team's owner.

An improved version of the team's 2006 competition Chevrolet vehicle as well as an all new prototype car - built with the cumulative hands-on experience garnered during the past seven years - will be driven by noted National Liberty Racing Team rally drivers Yahya Al Helei, navigated by Khalid Al Kendi and Ahmad Bin Suqat and his navigation partner, Abdul Halim Zayed.

Prominent National champions Khalid Khamis and Khalid Al Falasi and Mohammad Al Shamsi will be competing in the Moto category.

Shaikh Khalid continued: "Our National drivers, navigators and riders have a great deal of experience in the dunes and across this type of terrain.

"As we have backed them with specially engineered vehicles, we are confident that they will be up to the challenge of fighting for a podium finish."

The UAE Desert Challenge is in its 17th successful year.
