Dubai: Kuwaiti’s two-time Olympic bronze medallist Fahad Al Dehani is confident that he can peak in time for a record third medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.

Al Dehani is the only Kuwaiti shooter with two Olympic medals, both bronze in the men’s trap discipline. The 50-year-old marksman from Kuwait City won the third place at the 2000 Sydney Games and then 12 years later, took a second bronze medal following a tense shoot-off at the London Olympics.

With more than two years to go for the next Olympic Games, Al Dehani is getting ready to capture the elusive gold medal. “My preparations will commence later this year so that I can peak just in time for the Olympics. And certainly, I will be aiming for one of the quota spots and not on a wild card to make it to Rio,” Al Dehani told Gulf News on the sidelines of the Nad Al Sheba Sporting Clays Championship that concluded in Al Ruwayyah on Wednesday.

“I will use all competitions this year to win a quota place and once that is out of the way, I will be aiming to get better — so that my best comes while I am in Rio,” he added.

The first target for the Kuwaiti is The Emir of Kuwait International Shooting Grand Prix, to be held from March 7-15, followed by the ISSF World Cup Shotgun from April 8 to 15 in Tucson, USA.

“I’ve been in good form at the moment and I am sure the home competition will get me sharper in time for the World Cup in Tucson,” Al Dehani added.
