Hamburg: UAE Team Emirates’ Slovenian rider Marko Kump finished eighth in the EuroEyes Cyclassics Hamburg race on Sunday.

Team Sky dominated the race with Elia Viviani finishing ahead of FDJ’s Arnaud Demare and Lotto NL-Jumbo’s Dylan Groenewegen.

Kump said: “The first part of the race was rather easy as the speed of the bunch was low. However, towards the final circuit everyone switched gears and was on full speed until the finish line. There were a few crashes that complicated the race itself and created a bit of unease in the peloton but that didn’t affect me as I felt really good and had great support from the team. I couldn’t get into a suitable position to launch my sprint, and it’s never easy to lead a bunch in Hamburg, but my legs felt good and I finished among the top ten, which makes me happy.”

Other UAE Team Emirates riders Roberto Ferrari and Simone Consonni finished 16th and 20th respectively.

Elsewhere in Europe, UAE Team Emirates is racing in the third and final Grand Tour of the season — the Vuelta a Espana — until September 10.
