Dubai: Dubai-based swimmer Jakub Karl won one silver and two bronze medals at the Czech Republic National Championships last week.

The 14-year-old Hamilton Aquatics member recorded personal bests in all six of his events and came first in his age group, earning him a Czech national team recall.

Karl won a silver medal in the 200-metre butterfly with a time of 2:12.01 and two bronze medals in the 100m butterly (59.08) and 200m freestyle (1:57.00). He also came fourth in the 50m freestyle (25.10), the 50m butterly (26.86) and the 100m freestyle (55.22).

Karl’s coach Ash Morris congratulated his protege on his performance. “I am very happy with Jakub’s results this weekend,” he said. “He was racing against swimmers a lot older and more developed than him, but he was up for the challenge and impressed the national team coaches.”

Karl’s next competition will be the British Age Group Championship from July 28 to August 3, where he will be out to defend his four gold medals from last year.
