Dubai: Crowd pullers India and Pakistan will renew their on-court rivalry at the 12th Rashid International Volleyball Tournament to be held at Al Shabab Club next month.

Lebanon, Iran, Tunisia and hosts UAE will be the other four teams in this competition scheduled to take place from October 8-13.

The annual tournament was announced by Amr Ali, president, UAE Volleyball Association in the presence of Dr Ahmad Sa'ad Al Sharif, Secretary-General, Dubai Sports Council (DSC) at the association premises late on Wednesday.

Neighbours India and Pakistan have met on several occasions in the past in this competition, with the Indians holding a better record of winning four titles in the past editions.

Pakistan, though, has also won the title on one occasion in 2008. Thailand are the defending champions following their win last year.

"We have always had a passionate crowd supporting these teams and that makes this tournament very special for a lot of people," Amr Ali said.

"Entrance for all games will be free and there will be special raffles and prizes during the course of the tournament for spectators," he added.

The match timings are yet to be finalised and will only be done after meetings with the sports' television channels.
