Abu Dhabi: Hosts UAE on Saturday added five more medals to their haul in the 12th GCC Shooting Championship held at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Gulf Club (AESGC) under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the President of the club.

Mohammad Al Shamsi won the gold medal of the individual 25m standard pistol competition with a score of 561, leaving the silver medal to Omani Saeed Al Hassani on 558, while Saudi Arabian Al Saeed Mohammad won the bronze with a score of 555.

Al Shamsi also helped the UAE win the silver medal in the team event of the same discipline with a score of 1,640 behind Saudi Arabia, who scored 1,648, but ahead of third-placed Oman on 1,634.

Al Shamsi scored 561 in the team competition, while his colleague Amin Taher scored the same and Muaad Al Kendi notched 528.

Youngster Yasmin Tahlak was the talk of the championship after she won gold in the 10m air rifle women juniors competition with a score of 394, which is a new record for the UAE and better than the records achieved by the shooters of the UAE women’s national team.

The UAE also won bronze in the 10m air rifle competition for junior males with a score of 1,683. Kuwait won the gold with 1,727 and Qatar the silver with 1,701.

The UAE were represented by Salem Al Qaidi, who scored 568, Rashid Al Ketbi, who also scored 568, and Ebrahim Al Hammadi with a score of 547.

The UAE youngsters also won the bronze medal of the male junior trap competition with a score of 286 as Kuwait won the gold with 324 and Qatar came second with 302.
