Dubai: The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) will be delivering yet another innovation in the field of sport and fitness with the formal launch Monday of "Beach Style" under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, Dubai Executive Council.

"We need to take sports and fitness in the country to a different level. And the goal behind having the ‘Beach Style' is in keeping with the vision of sports as a lifestyle laid down by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai," Dr Ahmad Saad Al Sharif, Secretary General, of the Dubai Sports Council told media at the announcement yesterday.

"The flip side behind such an activity will be that we will have untapped talent coming through in the new sports disciplines," he added. "Beach Style" is a combination of three events beach soccer, beach volleyball and freestyle taking place at The Walk next to the Jumeirah Beach Residence from January 14-29.

As many as 16 beach soccer and beach volleyball teams from various countries will be invited to participate along a world freestyle competition.

A special venue is being erected at the beach with a seating capacity of nearly 5,000 spectators. "The idea is to get residents out of their homes and on the beach to enjoy the pleasant weather at this time of the year and the bonus will be to see them taking part in various activities planned that will enhance a healthy living," Dr Al Sharif added.

The Dubai Sports Council has signed a three-year agreement with events management company Touch, and efforts are underway to ensure that this will become a permanent fixture on the Dubai sports calendar. "This is not a one-off event for sure," Dr Al Sharif said.

"The ‘Beach Style' will be a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to get together and enjoy some quality time together and have fun at the same time," commented Rabih Daher, CEO, Touch Model and Event Management.

"We are working on the sponsorship and marketing of this event and we hope we can achieve the target that we have set for the success of this inaugural competition," he added.
