Dubai: Defending champions Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia were given a run for their money by Omani club Sohar in the 26th GCC volleyball tournament.

The event is being held at Al Nasr Club's Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Sports Hall.

Al Hilal defeated Sohar 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 21-25, 26-24, 15-6), following a tough clash with the Omanis, who showed their best and forced them to play a decisive setter.

The Saudi club, who won their first match on Friday 3-1 against Al Arabi of Qatar (25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21), top the standings with four points from two wins.

In yesterday's other matches, Muharraq of Bahrain beat Al Arabi of Qatar 3-2 (25-21, 12-25, 25-19, 30-32, 15-13) after a tough encounter.

Hosts Al Nasr beat Sohar of Oman in the opening match last Thursday 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-18). Al Qadsia of Kuwait on Friday beat Al Muharraq 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 27-25).
