Hatta: Yu Min-wang enjoys playing amateur basketball with his friends at International City, Dubai. A businessman, who has recently moved to Dubai with an outlet at the China Mall in the neighbourhood, Yu has managed to get like-minded Chinese together and form the ‘Colony Club’ that participates locally.

Earlier this week, Yu heard of the XDubai Spartan Race in Hatta and decided to see how he fared in a totally alien sporting discipline. His spirit of adventure was rewarded as the 31-year-old Yu ended in second place behind Army instructor Mohammad Bassam Obaidat from Jordan.

“I totally enjoyed myself out there and I would gladly go out in the mountains all over again if I had the strength to do so,” Yu told Gulf News.

“I enjoying coming down from the obstacles, but it is the climbs that are hard on me and I really don’t like those. Perhaps I lost vital seconds due to these climbing obstacles or I could have been first,” he added.

“Everything is not lost for me yet. I will now start training especially for Spartan races and come and win this race here next year,” he promised.
