Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Tour ambassador Mark Cavendish is almost certain of a place in Great Britain’s Olympic squad with Jon Dibben sidelined with a broken elbow.

The Briton said he won’t be going to Olympics just to make the numbers if he is selected. “The selection is on June 13 and then only I will know. It will shape the rest of my season,” said Cavendish adding, “I also want to be at the Olympics but I have been to the Olympics before. So, if I’m going there, then I’m going so that I can win a medal. If I didn’t believe in that then I don’t intent to go back to the Olympics.”

Cavendish, who missed out on the inaugural Abu Dhabi Tour last year, went on to reveal that he was enjoying his stint with the team Dimension Data.

“The atmosphere in the team is very relaxed and very good people. We have some successful start to the year with team Dimension Data and obviously, we have done a lot for the success for the rest of the season,” said Cavendish, who is keen to be part of Abu Dhabi Tour this year.

“Obviously, missing out last year was a disappointment but I was here to watch it from close from the comforts of the AC car. This time, I would like to be out there for sure.”
