Dubai: The Daman Active Life opening stage of the UAE Cycling Federation’s inaugural Dubai Eye 103.8 UAE Road Cycling Championship will see amateur UAE cyclists race along the picturesque Abu Dhabi Corniche, from 7am on Friday.

To be decided over 55 kilometres, Friday’s stage will recognise and reward the first amateur UAE stage winners (men and women — Emirati and expatriate) while at the same time see cyclists add valuable points as they vie for the inaugural UAE Championship Crown, to be claimed after the Dubai stage on March 9.

“This is the first race of its kind in the UAE and we are looking forward to getting the championship, and the cyclists, underway,” said Osama Al Shafar, the president of the UAE Cycling Federation.

“The championship provides us with a solid platform to encourage and identify those who have the potential to represent the UAE at various regional and international meets, while at the same time provide a safe, yet challenging national series for UAE’s cycling community. We wish all cyclists a very enjoyable race and extend our thanks to our esteemed sponsors and supporters,” he added.
