Abu Dhabi: Aldar Academies, one of the UAE’s leading private education providers, hosted the second edition of Aldar Academies Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2016 for the second year running.

The national inter-school yearly tournament for younger age groups, doubled in size this year included more than 80 players from 11 Abu Dhabi schools. The event was held at Aldar Academies’ Al Bateen Secondary School on Monday, in partnership with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Palm Sports.

Aldar Academies’ hosting of the event is also in support for the bid by the UAE leadership to make Jiu-Jitsu one of the national sports of the UAE.

Aldar Academies Jiu-Jitsu Cup comprised of 33 preliminary fights with over 80 players from Aldar Academies, Adnec and Adnoc Schools, aged between 4 to 15 years old, many of whom have students who contested in national and international sporting events such as the Emirates Cup and Abu Dhabi Cup.

There was a total of 5 super fights with the UAE Junior National Team players from 14 to 17 years old, in addition to a thrilling demonstration fight by Emirati Master; Yahya Al Hammadi — Member of UAE National Team and 4 times Gold Medallist at the World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship and World Jiu-Jitsu Grand Slam 2016.

We do this in support of the UAE leadership’s bid to make Jiu-Jitsu one of the national sports and as part of our role to encourage it among the academic youth segment, through this interschool tournament.”
