Al Nasr showed they are the best volleyball team in the UAE after clinching the Super Cup, beating Al Jazira 3-1 (25-19, 25-16, 14-25 and 25-22) at Rashid bin Hamdan indoor sports hall yesterday.

The winners have hence added the Super Cup to the league title which they already won two weeks back, this being the second successive year of them landing the 'double'.

Dr Khalifa Rashid Al Shaali, UAE Volleyball Association board of directors' chairman and Dr Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, the Al Nasr executive bureau chairman, attended the match and presented the trophies.

The winners will now be looking to win the treble if they succeed in the President's Cup, which begins next month.

Al Nasr led in the first set 4-2 and then 6-4 with powerful smashes by Mohammed Saif and Khalid Walid and good defending at the back and on the net. They continued leading to finish finish winners at 25-19.

They continued with their domination as well in the second set 5-1, 9-4 and 14-10 with good defence at the back line by Ali Fardan and Ahmed Ibrahim. Again, they didn't give Al Jazira any chance to threaten their lead until they won it 25-16.

Al Jazira recovered somewhat in the third set when they took the lead 4-3, Obaid Mubarak and Hamid Omer's smashes breaking the strong Al Nasr defence. They strengthened their defence on the net and at the backline and never looked back after advancing 5-3, 7-4, 12-9, 16-11, 22-12 and won the set 25-14.

The fourth set was a real battle. Al Nasr led 3-1, which was levelled at 4-4, 6-6, 11-11, 14-14, 18-18 and even 20-20!

Al Nasr's strong blocks at the net with some crushing smashes by Mohammed Saif (man of the match), Khalid Walid and Sami Jasim gave them the advantage to build a two-point difference at 22-20.

Khalid Walid's powerful smash then settled the issue and Al Nasr won the set 25-22 to clinch the Super Cup, much to the joy of the Al Nasr supporters.
