Abu Dhabi: Al Ain Club finished in the lead with a total score of 2,734 points at the end of the fourth round of the President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup at the Baynounah Educational Complex in Al Dhafra. Al Wahda was second with 2,010 points followed by Al Jazira Club in third with a total of 1,785.

The round also reflected the intense preparations made by the clubs to prepare their players, to raise the accumulated points to try to win the title ahead of the fifth round, which is scheduled for March. The competition was divided into three categories for both men and women, Youths under 18, Juniors under 21 and Seniors 21 years and over.

Al Ain Club came through once again and won the fourth round with 627 points. The club now has a monstrous total of 2,734 points, maintaining its leading position after players of the club performed exceptionally once again.

Al Wahda was also able to maintain its position scoring 620 points to total up at 2,010. Al Jazira was not far behind defending its position by scoring 422 points to reach a total of 1,785 points.

The championship allows two athletes from each weight category from each club to take part. Athletes win medals for their clubs, and the club with highest scores wins. Players and clubs are given 30, 20 and 10 points respectively for every gold, silver and bronze medal they achieve.

The tournament is exclusive for Emirati men and women athletes, registered in any of the country’s clubs. It aims to discover new talents from the next generation, in order to provide them with the necessary support to develop.

The fourth round of the President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup saw Ahmad Abdullah Al Hosani from Al Jazira Club win gold medal in the under 18 youth category. Omar is the brother of Ahmad Abdullah Al Hosani, who died during his national duty in Yemen.

“This round of His Highness the President’s Cup was very intense, and thank God my winning streak continued into this round scoring additional points for Al Jazira Club,” said Al Hosani, who dedicated the win to his martyred brother.

“As a member of the Al Jazira team, we are making great efforts to lead the competition today and live-up to the expectations of our honourable coach and club. I’m also looking to achieve the best player of the 2017-2018 season. I think every player in the UAE is looking ahead to the title,” he added.

Mohammad Bin Dalmouj, UAEJJF Board Member and Director of the Championship, speaking on the occasion said: “The participation numbers continue to increase, and now stands at 340 players of different belts colours and clubs in the country. This reflects the Cup’s status and development in becoming a platform to develop the skills of Jiu-Jitsu champions and ensuring they participate in international sporting forums.”
