Abu Dhabi: The Al Ain Culture and Chess Club (ACCC) will host a unique camp to sharpen the country's youngsters' brains by initiating them into chess.

The ACCC, in its last meeting headed by Shaikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Shakhboot Al Nahyan, the President of the club and the Asian Chess Federation, decided to start a campaign to teach 5,000 youngsters the game of chess.

The campaign, to commence on March 1, will be open for boys and girls from the locals and expatriates under the theme 'Learn chess in one day". The campaign will last for 40 days. "It is a campaign to build the brains, not the brawns," Hosham Al Taher, the Chairman of the ACCC's Technical Committee(TC), told Gulf News. "We are expecting support and cooperation of the national companies to be the sponsors of the event."

The ACCC meeting also discussed the proposals of its technical committee to spread and improve the game among the population, specially the youngsters by reaching them.

The ACCC's tournament for the handicapped and disabled will commence today at the club's premises in Al Ain and on April 4, they will host the UAE Blitz Championship coinciding with the annual city celebrations of Spring Festival.

The club will also host the President's Cup in August. The ACCC has decided to organise a new championship between the Al Ain University, the country's schools, government departments, private companies and expat communities.
