Abdul Aziz Ahmad Al Hajry was elected chairman of the UAE Taekwondo and Karate Association by the General Assembly late on Monday at the Leaders Qualification Centre in Dubai.

Al Hajry won the presidency unopposed. Dr Mohammad Salim Suhail, assistant general secretary of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare [GAYSW] and the deputy chairman of the elections committee attended the general assembly.

Khalifa Al German the GAYSW financial manager chaired the elections meeting with representatives from ten clubs.

The Al Ain club representative Khamis Al Kaaby came 20 minutes late. He was dismissed and took no further part in the elections.

Six out of the nine candidates were elected as board members for the 2005-2008 period. The six members are: Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman Al Noman [Sharjah club; 125 points]; Mohammad Abbas Al Boloushy [Al Shabab club; 125 points]; Hasan Al Sayed Ahmad Al Hashimy [Al Ahli club; 106 points]; Deaij Jasim Rayeesy [Ajman club; 94 points]; Ayoub Mohammad Hussain Lashkary [Al Shaab club; 94 points]; Mohammad Salim bin Ghulaita [Al Nasr club; 88 points].

Dr Suhail who has been attending the general assemblies congratulated the winners and wished them luck. He expressed his satisfaction with proceedings saying, "Everything is going smoothly and we finished three association elections without a hitch. I hope the rest of the associations [basketball, cycling, volleyball, handball, athletics and table tennis] will conclude their business in a civilised manner."

Dr Suhail, however, reserved criticism for the club representatives who arrived late for the general assembly.

"The general assembly starts at 6 pm every day. Anyone who comes after that will be dismissed. I don't know why some representatives come late and deny their candidates of their votes."

Dr Suhail asked the clubs to remind their representatives to come on time as it was important.

When asked about the absence of the association's chairman Abdul Aziz Al Hajry, he said that their job was to prepare and organise the elections and not to look into a candidates presence or absence.

The clubs representatives who attended the general assembly were: Salim Bin Jarsh [Falaj Al Mualla], Thani Juma [Al Ahli], Saeed Mattar [Al Shaab], Saeed Abdul Ghafar [Al Shabab], Abdullah Jasim [Sharjah], Abdullah Rashid [Diba Fujairah], Obaid Saeed [Al Ittihad], Hamad Ali [Masfout], Mohammad Al Matroushy [Ajman], Dawood Al Hajry [Al Nasr].
