Abu Dhabi: Favourites Thailand trounced debutants India 14-0 in the first match of the second Asian Ice Hockey Championship at the Abu Dhabi Ice Rink at Zayed Sports City on Sunday.

Thamwong opened the second with a fast goal with Charsuwan adding the second and Thamwong came again to add the third, Jirachai the fourth and Songsak the fifth to end the second period leading 8-0.

"It was our first ever tournament and we came to gain experience by playing against the continent's best teams." Adam Sherlip, the American coach of the Indian team, told Gulf News.

"We are not competing for the title but we will do our best in the matches and try to enjoy and learn from our opponents."

Do you play ice hockey? Will you be there at the tournament? Will hosting such events help popularise ice hockey in the country?
