Pittsburgh: Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist scored power-play goals 55 seconds apart in the second period as the Pittsburgh Penguins gave the New York Islanders their first loss of the season, 3-1 on Saturday.

The Islanders (4-1) had been the Eastern Conference’s last unbeaten team.

Hornqvist, who assisted on Malkin’s goal, added an empty-net tally with 1:20 left to seal the Penguins’ win. Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby had two assists, including the 500th of his career.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves in the win.

Vancouver’s Steven Stamkos scored two goals and added an assist, and Ben Bishop made 30 saves as the Tampa Bay Lightning downed the Canucks 4-2 for their first loss of the season.

Ryan Callahan added a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay, and Alex Killhorn also scored. Ondrej Palat had two assists.

Chris Higgins and Alexander Edler scored for Vancouver, which had 20 saves from backup goalie Eddie Lack in his first start. The Canucks were the last NHL team to lose this season.

The Canucks had a home sell-out streak ended at 474 games. The previous non-sell-out in Vancouver was Nov. 12, 2002.

At Newark, New Jersey, Logan Couture had a goal and two assists, and Antti Niemi made 35 saves as the San Jose Sharks topped the Devils 4-2.

Joe Pavelski added a goal and an assist, and Joe Thornton iced the game with an empty-net goal — his 1,200th NHL point — as the Sharks won for the fourth time in five games. They have earned 9 of 10 points, losing only in a shoot-out to the New York Islanders.

Patrick Marleau added a goal for Sharks.

The Boston Bruins blanked the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 after Niklas Svedberg made 32 saves for his first NHL shutout.

It was just the third career start for Svedberg, who replaced Tuukka Rask in the third period of Boston’s loss Thursday at Montreal.

Dougie Hamilton, Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug and Carl Soderberg scored for the Bruins (3-4). All four goals came at even strength, and three were scored against Buffalo’s top line.

In other games, Washington scored on all three shots in the shoot-out as the Capitals edged the Panthers 1-0, Henrik Zetterberg scored the lone goal 4:50 into overtime to give the Detroit Red Wings a 1-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2.

P.K. Subban scored twice and Alex Galchenyuk had a goal and an assist as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2, the Chicago Blackhawks earned a 2-1 overtime win over the Nashville Predators, the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Dallas Stars 6-5 in overtime and the St. Louis Blues trounced the Arizona Coyotes 6-1.
