Las Vegas: Los Angeles Kings star centre Jarret Stoll, who helped the club win National Hockey League titles in 2012 and 2014, was charged with felony cocaine possession, authorities announced on Monday.

The district attorney’s office in Clark County, Nevada, revealed the details of the case against the Canadian, who was arrested on April 17 at the MGM Grand, the same hotel where the NHL conducts its annual award ceremony on Wednesday, which is also Stoll’s 33rd birthday.

Police said Stoll attempted to enter a pool area when a security guard discovered cocaine during a voluntary pat-down. They said Stoll admitted the 3.3 grams of powder in his pocket was cocaine.

If convicted, Stoll faces a maximum of four years in prison, but he also could receive a suspended sentence and probation at the judge’s discretion.

Stoll is set to return to court on July 1, the day he is set to become a free agent after playing for the Kings since 2008. He matched a career low with only six goals in 73 games last season for the Kings.
