Sharjah: Axiom Hockey Club defeated the Al Khaboura team from Oman in a thrilling penalty shootout to win the 10th edition of the Seiko Al Futtaim Watches and Jewellery men's hockey tournament organised by Lusitanian Hockey Club at the Sharjah Wanderers Club ground.
Javed, Rizwan and Sheriyar ensured Axiom a 3-1 win over Al Khaboura. Last year, Axiom finished as runners-up.
Sharjah Tigers, Dubai Hockey Club, Emirates Group, Dubai Republicans, United Emirates Hockey Club, Loose Cannons, Lacnor Hockey Team, Cambridge High School, Abu Dhabi and Al Khaboura were the 10 teams that participated in the tournament. Axiom reached the final by beating United Emirates Hockey Club in another close match that ended in a penalty shootout.
Waheed gave United Emirates the perfect start by scoring the first goal within four minutes of play, only for Javed to level the score a minute later.
In the last five minutes, the match heated up with Waheed scoring again. But Javed came to the rescue again, scoring the equaliser in the closing stages of the match and setting up the penalty shootout.
