Abu Dhabi:  Al Ain Sports Club goalkeeper Yousuf Abdul Rahman, who met a serious car accident on Thursday evening, was operated upon yesterday morning at the Rashid Hospital in Dubai and was said to be recovering.

Abdul Rahman, who was driving to join Al Ain for their training in Dubai ahead of yesterday’s UFL match against Al Nasr, crashed near Al Dhaid after a tyre burst.

The Kalba resident was first rushed to Al Kalba Hospital and later airlifted and transferred to Rashid Hospital following directions from Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, First Deputy President of Al Ain Club, First Deputy President of the Honorary Board and Chairman of Al Ain’s board of directors.

Shaikh Hazza was reportedly keeping a close tab on the progress of Abdul Rahman, who was the first goalkeeper in Al Ain’s opening UFL engagement following an injury to veteran Waleed Salim. According to a club press release, Abdul Rahman suffered a broken jaw as well as injuries on his neck and other parts of the body but was recovering fast and was out of danger.

Dr Khalid Mohammad Abdullah, CEO of Al Ain club; Majid Al Owais, Al Ain football team manager; Rashid Al Za’abi of the UAE FA, team doctor Sultan Rashid visited the Abdul Rahman after the club’s training session yesterday morning.

Promising talent

Abdul Rahman, who started his career with smaller clubs in the northern emirates before signing up for Ittihad Kalba, was roped in by Al Ain for a sum of Dh10 million after his eye-catching performances with the UAE youth team which won the under-23 Gulf Cup last month.

One of the most promising goalkeepers in the UAE, Abdul Rahman was recently called up to the senior national team.

It will, however, take a while before Abdul Rahman can play again.
