Dubai: The Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) will be one of the sponsors of Dubai Tour 2015 in February next year. The Tour signed an agreement with CBD last week to sponsor the leader’s blue jersey.

Speaking about the agreement, Peter Baltusen, CEO, CBD said: “Commercial Bank of Dubai is thrilled to sponsor the second edition of the Dubai Tour which strongly aligns with the bank’s corporate responsibility objectives of promoting a healthy lifestyle,” Baltusen said.

“This event contributes significantly to elevating the UAE’s sports sector and embodies the vision of the government to develop and promote sports in UAE, led by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,” he added.

Founded in 1969, CBD is a leading, award-winning local bank with its headquarters in Dubai.

The blue jersey is worn by the leading rider in the general classification of the race. The inaugural 2014 blue jersey was won by BMC’s Taylor Phinney, who went on to claim the lead on the opening day’s Time Trial and managed to hold on to it until the end of the four-day event in its inaugural year.

The other three stages were won in group sprints by Germany rider and Team Giant Shimano’s Marcel Kittel, who held off Mark Cavendish and Peter Sagan.

Saeed Hareb, Chairman, Organising Committee, Dubai Tour and General-Secretary, Dubai Sports Council (DSC) was pleased with the strategic partnership between the cycle race and Dubai’s top bank. “We are honoured to have Commercial Bank of Dubai as the top sponsor of the Tour and its leader’s jersey. For us this partnership is very important as it recognises the good job done so far, the importance of the race globally and the will to invest in an event that is growing steadily from day one,” Hareb said.

“The Dubai Tour offers us an opportunity to reveal to the world the convergence between our rich heritage and our flourishing present, images of harmony among communities from more than 200 countries, living and working in our nation, and images of millions of visitors who come to the UAE throughout the year,” he added.
