Muscat Madhu Sampat, a well-known personality among the cricketing fraternity in the region, died late on Sunday evening.

Sampat was one of the pillars of Oman Cricket since the early 1980s.

A member of the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Scorers of India, he had served the Oman Cricket Board in different capacities for over three decades, including as its general secretary and treasurer.

Most recently he was a board member and chairman of the domestic tournament committee.

He was a father figure for junior cricketers in Oman, as Sampat travelled with teams of different age groups from the country to different tournaments around Asia as manager.

According to Madhu Jesrani, Oman Cricket's general secretary, Sampat, 64, died of cardiac arrest.
