Dubai Dr Raffaele Chiulli has been re-elected as the president of the world governing body for water sports, the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), during the 84th General Assembly held in Abu Dhabi earlier this week.

Dr Chiulli was re-elected for a second term, with a clear majority in the first round of voting, to oversee the development of the water sports that falls within the ambit of the UIM.

Speaking after his election, Dr Chiulli said the body has made a huge impact in the sport by accomplishing all initiatives set by the UIM in its strategic plan and projects. "I am proud and honoured to have been confirmed by the General Assembly as leader of the international Powerboating fraternity for a further four years. I can promise that I will continue strengthening the position of our sport and body as one with a vision," he added.

Meanwhile, the UAE's Mohammad Abdullah Hareb was elected as a member of the UIM Council, taking the number of UAE members to three.

Ahmad Al Rumaithi is the OPC chairman of the UIM and Ahmad Ebrahim is a member on the Cominof Committee of the UIM.
