Dubai: An amateur Northern vs Southern Hemisphere fight night involving world-renowned former rugby and cricket stars will take place at Dubai Sports City this Friday to raise funds for South African triathlete Richard Holland, who was left with life-changing injuries after being knocked off his bike while training in Dubai last October.
After 14 weeks of intensive training, former Wales winger Shane Williams will square up with ex-South Africa scrum-half Bolla Conradie, while former England cricketer Adam Hollioake will take on ex-New Zealand full-back Carlos Spencer.
The six-card event, dubbed Fighting Chance Dubai, will raise funds for the BackOnYourBike foundation set up to assist Holland with life-long medical support.
He remains in a locked-in state seven months after being struck by a car while training — he sustained multiple injuries including a severe brain stem injury, which has left him unable to move or communicate.
The weekend’s line-up of activities will kick-off with the chance to get up close and personal with some of the fighters in an open training session at Dubai’s Habtoor Grand Resort & Spa on Wednesday.
This will be followed by the weigh-in and long lunch at the same venue on Thursday. Tickets for this event are Dh300 per person.
The black-tie gala dinner fight night is to be held at Dubai Sports City on Friday, with tickets starting from Dh1,000. The main event includes a mix of local amateur boxers and international sporting legends.
Tickets for the events can be purchased through organiser John Mamea-Wilson on 050 8463588 or fightingchancedubai@gmail.com
