Cardiff: Britain's Lee Haskins successfully defended his IBF world bantamweight title with a unanimous points victory over Mexico's Ivan Morales on Saturday.

Haskins' superiority at Cardiff Ice Arena in the Welsh capital was reflected on the cards of the three judges, who scored it 119-108, 118-110, 118-110 In Haskins' favour.

Morales, eight years Haskins' junior at the age of 24, lacked the punch power and know-how to record an upset, even if the Mexican continued to come forward until the final bell.

The brother of former great Erik Morales and ex-flyweight belt holder Diego Morales, he was unable to make use of his height and reach advantage.

Haskins was making his first title defence after being crowned champion in November when Randy Caballero was stripped of the title after coming in above the bantamweight limit.

"I felt I won the title when I beat [Ryosuke] Iwasa," Haskins said. "He was a top fighter, one of the best. I beat him comfortably and I just beat this guy comfortably."

Next on the agenda for Haskins is an all-British matchup with Stuart Hall, who he beat for the European bantamweight title back in 2012.

"I beat him easy before and I'm going to beat him easy again, easier than the fight I've just had," Haskins said.

"He's been talking a lot online. I don't know what his problem is, whether I've got more hair than him. But if he wants another lesson I'm going to give it to him."
