Dubai: Victory Team’s latest addition Ahmad Al Hameli has insisted he is well prepped to mount a decent challenge on another world crown with his new team.

“I am here for the title,” Al Hameli told Gulf News after being officially welcomed into the team by Huraiz Bin Huraiz, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Victory Team.

“Last year Shaun [Torrente] did a great job, and all of us at Victory Team are very excited that we can mount a serious challenge for the world title this season,” he added.

As part of his testing and training, Al Hameli spent two weeks in Italy before returning to the UAE earlier this week. “I believe we have the best package on board at the moment. But there will be other teams out there who are also there to win the title,” he cautioned.

“But what gives Victory Team the advantage is that we have a near-perfect set-up of drivers, mechanics and the backing of the team management,” Al Hameli said.

The UIM, the world body for watersport has announced a tentative seven-race calendar for F1 racing starting with the Grand Prix of Portugal in Portimao on April 21-23 and concluding with the Grand Prix of Sharjah on December 13-15.

“I believe we are ready as genuine contenders for the title this season. Everything has been falling in place and we are set to go and get the drivers’ and teams’ titles for Victory Team this season,” Al Hameli added.
