Ras Al Khaimah: The RAK International Marine Sports Club Autumn Dragon Boat Regatta 2016 will be held in Ras Al Khaimah on Friday, November 25.
Organised under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, the regatta will witness more than 700 paddlers in 30 dragon boat teams from across the UAE and the Middle East.
Teams will compete in seven race classes starting from 22 teams in the competitive category and another eight teams in the corporate category.
The Dragon Boat event will be held from 8am until late in the afternoon, with spectators having the opportunity to watch the boats battle it out on the waters from the Corniche area.
“Dragon boating is a thrilling watersport, full of adrenalin, sportsmanship and strategy. It is the fastest growing watersport in the world with over 50 million annual competitions, while it continues to gain much interest in the UAE,” noted Rina Gauer, Head, Organising Committee.
“With this in mind the club has built a competitive racecourse of international standard, exclusively for Dragon Boating and a sophisticated timing system will be used to record and capture all results and races,” she added.
Supported by the office of the RAK Ruler, RAK Municipality, Police and Coast Guard, the RAK Bank, Monviso Italian Water and Panaderia Restaurant are the official sponsors of Ras Al Khaimah Autumn Regatta 2016.
