Dubai: VIB secured an emphatic 71-57 win against the LOL team to help themselves to the basketball crown in the Dubai Sports Council's Furjan 4 Championships held at the Al Twar Park last week.

Ali Al Mutawa, financial director, DSC; Abdullah Al Ansari, secretary general, UAE Basketball Association; and Dr. Muneer Bin Al Habib, technical director, UAE Basketball Association, presented the two finalists with trophies and medals after the game.

As organisers, the DSC had a full-fledged team involved in the conduct of the competition with Abdul Rasoul Abdullah the general supervisor of the competition, assisted by Hussain Abbas, Mohammad Al Hammadi, Aabid Shakir, Mohammad Habib, Khalifa Saif, Khalid Hassan and Faisal Al Ameri.

This is the fourth year of the Furjan Championships being organised by the Dubai Sports Council in coordination with Dubai Municipality, with sponsorship from the Emirates Driving Institute.

DSC said it organises the annual championships in an attempt to enhance the culture of sports and fitness in various districts of the emirate, while also giving voluntary sports leaders the motivation to put their skills into practice.

Al Morouj was declared the best team, Ali Kaidi of the Hut team the best manager; Ahmad Khamis of the Outlet team the best player; and Nasser Hussain of the LOL team emerged as the topscorer.
