Stage set for Arab Women's Clubs basketball championships
The stage is set for a historic occasion in UAE sport with the staging of the 13th Arab Women's Clubs Basketball Championship from tomorrow to June 1.
Dubai: The stage is set for a historic occasion in UAE sport with the staging of the 13th Arab Women's Clubs Basketball Championship from tomorrow to June 1.
Eleven teams from 10 countries, including two from defending champions Lebanon, have confirmed their participation for this competition.
This is the first time that the UAE is hosting a competition for Arab women.
"We are slowly getting things in order for this important championship," stated Abdullah Al Ansari, Secretary General of the UAE Basketball Association.
Defending champions Intra Nic from Lebanon will be joined by Homenetmen, Al Muharraq (Bahrain), Al Fatahyat (Kuwait), Orthodox (Jordan), Sporting Alexandria (Egypt), Al Fatah (Morocco), Al Wahda (Syria), Sulamaniya (Iraq) and hosts Al Ahli.
Meanwhile, the competition has received a boost with the signing of fitness specialists, Power Plate as one of the sponsors for the event.
As part of the agreement, Power Plate will set up two machines at the competition venue for the benefit of the players.
"WWe want to help our women athletes from the Arab world benefit during this competition," stated Nelke Van Aspert, CEO of Power Plate.
The opening ceremony will be held at 5pm at Al Ahli Club on May 24.
