Dubai: The New Indian Model School (NIMS), Sharjah retained the NIMS Trophy after beating Delhi Private School (DPS), Dubai in the finals of 24th NIMS Trophy Inter-School Basketball Tournament held in Sharjah last week.

NIMS led the first quarter 20-7 with Anees Zubair piercing through the DPS, Dubai defence while Umair Khan regularly scored from offensive rebounds.

Ishan Shoukath and Sharhan Sakarla combined well in the second quarter to power DPS back into the game as the Dubai team led the scoring 17-11 to reduce the deficit to seven points as the hosts still led 31-24 at half-time.

Both the teams played neck-and-neck match in the third quarter with DPS outscoring the home side 11-10. But with some voracious home support, NIMS nudged ahead 20-18 in the final quarter to successfully defend their title.

Mathias Joseph Netto of NIMS Sharjah was adjudged as the Player of the Final match and the Best Defensive Player award went to Mohammad Umair Khan from NIMS.

Ishan Shoukath of DPS Dubai was awarded the Most Promising Player trophy and the Most Valuable Player trophy was presented to Mohammad Safeer of NIMS Sharjah.

Dr. Kurshid Alam Salar, Principal, NIMS, Dubai and Nusky Jamal, Principal, NIMS, Sharjah presented the prizes to the finalists. The NIMS Basketball Tournament was supported by Safeway Technical Services, POS Media, Victoria College, Sharjah, Tabasco, Royal Star Real Estate, Al Afrah Group Sharjah and Al Rawabi Juice.
