Abu Dhabi: NBA Global Ambassador and 18-year NBA veteran Dikembe Mutombo conducted a clinic for 30 promising basketball players at the American International School in Abu Dhabi.

The clinic, run in conjunction with Flash Entertainment, the Abu Dhabi-based event consultancy, included boys and girls aged 13-18 as they took part in drills focusing on basketball fundamentals and skill development, while promoting fitness and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

"I am thrilled to have taken part in this special clinic in Abu Dhabi," said Mutombo.

"There is a big appetite for basketball in the region and I am encouraged by the continued growth of the sport in the United Arab Emirates."

Mutombo was four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year awardee through a career that also saw him named to eight All-Star Game appearances, and a place on three All-NBA teams and six All-Defensive teams.

New role

Off the court, Mutombo was recently named as NBA Global Ambassador.

In his new role, Mutombo will help to grow and celebrate the game through numerous events and social responsibility programs across the globe.

"The sport of basketball has a great potential to further grow in Abu Dhabi;" said Aly Al Hamamsy, Vice President for the Middle East. "

This initiative is another example of the NBA's commitment to growing the sport across the region."
