Dubai: The International Modern Hospital (TIMH) recently won the Seven Seas Marine Cargo Cup in the second edition of the All Hospital Basketball League (AHBL) defeating Welcare Hospital, 78-64.
Welcare Hospital led 15-14 at the end of the opening quarter and 27-25 at half-time in the match played at Salahuddin indoor hall.
Things were pretty tight — the score was tied at 44-44 — until Jessie Ojoy, later named Most Valuable Player, took over in the final quarter, scoring 17 points, hauled four rebounds and dished out two assists.
Alfie Felizardo top scored with 19 points, but his efforts went in vain for Welcare Hospital.
A total of ten teams participated in the league, the third edition of which begins in January 2013.
Emad Berdkar, basketball coach and Support Service Manager at TIMH, and Dr George John, Managing Partner and Sports Medicine Specialist at TIMH, presented the trophy and medals.
The annual competition is being held to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among healthcare providers in the UAE.
