Dubai: Indian High School Dubai beat New Indian Model School (NIMS) Dubai 35-24 in the final of the 17th NIMS Mini Basketball Tournament that concluded at the NIMS Sharjah court on Tuesday.

NIMS Dubai led comfortably 16-9 at the end of the first two quarters, but Indian High made the third period count with a 15-2 blast that NIMS Dubai failed to recover from.

Ahmad Thahir led Indian High with 12 points, followed by Rohan Kamath’s 11. For NIMS Dubai, Amal Suresh and Mohammad Sawad scored seven points apiece.

Indian High’s Thahir and Sawad from NIMS Dubai were adjudged the most promising players of the tournament.

KRS Nair, Director of Education and Training at NIMS Dubai, was joined by RSM Ghalib, Director at Central School, Dubai; CPM Koya, Vice-Principal of NIMS Dubai; Nusky Jamal, Principal of NIMS Sharjah; Rajan Job, President of the Indian Basketball Society, UAE; and Ajith Kumar, Headmaster of NIMS Sharjah, at the prize presentation.

Nair also released the Silver Jubilee souvenir of the NIMS Trophy Basketball Tournament during the function, after which the leading basketball players of NIMS Sharjah from 1989 onwards were felicitated.

A special memento was handed over to Ajeeth Sugunan, a former NIMS Sharjah player, who is currently the captain of the Kerala State basketball team.
