Dubai: Sporting fans in the UAE are in for a rare treat later this year with the arrival of the legendary Harlem Globetrotters.
This will be the first time in 15 years that the Globetrotters will be making an appearance in the Middle East.
The original Harlem Globetrotters are slotted to return to Dubai for a four-game basketball show at the Al Nasr Club in Dubai from April 5-8.
Organised by Delwood, a Dubai Media City-based company, the original Harlem Globetrotters will have a four-day stop in Dubai to mark their 80th Anniversary World Tour.
The Globetrotters, founded in 1926, have been named the most popular and exciting professional entertainment team in the world.
The team has performed in over 118 countries in front of over 123 million spectators. Their record of over 25,000 games and 21,500 wins makes them the most successful professional team of any sports.
Masters of innovation
Innovations such as the 'Slam Dunk', 'talent scouting' or the 'Figure eight weave offense' are aspects that have been reinvented by the Globetrotters.
To top it all, Michael Wilson is the 'King of the Air' holding the vertical slam dunk record since 2001 when he successfully slammed the ball through a hoop raised 12 feet off the ground.
The team's appeal knows no boundaries and crosses barriers between cultures and societies.
Delwood had presented 'The Legends Rock Dubai' featuring tennis greats such as Bjorn Borg, Ilie Nastase and Mansour Bahrami here last November.
"We are honoured to be able to present the Harlem Globetrotters in Dubai as this is again a perfect combination of entertainment and competitive sport," stated Eric Gottschalk, General Manager of Delwood.
"Officials at Al Nasr Club were very eager to stage the Globetrotters after a 15-year gap. It was a sell-out then, and we expect a much better response from the sporting fraternity this time," Gottschalk added.
