Dubai: The sponsors of the 2014 Fiba U17 World Championship are confident that some of the juniors participating in this week’s competition will scale greater heights in the future.

“This competition is an excellent platform for the youngsters to perform on a truly global stage. All participating teams are the best in the world and our UAE players will be up against the best. Hopefully, at least some of our players will make an impact,” said Mohammad Al Habbai, of sponsors Dubai Properties.

“The entire world will be watching Dubai over the next few days and we are confident that our youngsters will utilise this opportunity of displaying their talent with a better basketball future in mind,” he added.

Saeed Al Badi from Adnoc was in complete agreement. “Though supporting this tournament is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility [CSR], we are hopeful that at least some of these youngsters come through the ranks and do well for the national team in the years to come,” Al Badi said.

“Our commitment is to the UAE community as basketball is a popular community sport and much of the success of this competition would lie in the fact that we have a ready-made pool of talent for the future.”
