Dubai: Organisers of the American University in the UAE Youth Basketball Championships are expecting teams from the region and beyond for the annual tournament next month.
Zamalek of Egypt, Al Ahli of Libya, Al Sahel of Kuwait, A’mchit Club of Lebanon, Samara of Russia and Al Gharafa of Qatar are in advanced talks with the organisers to play in this year’s competition.
Negotiations are also underway to bring a couple of teams from the Philippines for the competition, scheduled for the second half of May.
“We hope the confirmations will come in soon so that we can have our programme finalised,” Awad Sami, head of the organising committee told Gulf News.
The annual tournament, now in its second year, is meant to give young teams from the UAE, an opportunity to play and improve against the best sides from other countries.
Supported by the Al Sadaf Group, hosts Al Shabab will be joined by Bani Yas from Abu Dhabi in the week-long tournament this year.
