Dubai: In a further move to empower women in sports, the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) last week organised a C licence course for women basketball referees in collaboration with the UAE Basketball Association.

The course, conducted by international Fiba instructor Qasim Dadhoush saw 22 women participating over three days.

Dadhoush dealt with the principles and laws of basketball in addition to several dedicated sessions on the mechanics of refereeing and practical on-court application.

The course was part of DSC’s strategy to empower Emiratis in various sports with special emphasis on technical aspects and development process.

Meanwhile, the Womens Sports Department of DSC is organising the ‘Physical Challenge Championship for Women’ at Studio 5, Jumeirah, from November 17 to 20. The competition is open to all women in three various categories, namely for those employed in government clubs, private clubs and a separate category for coaches.

The entire competition will be co-ordinated and organised by well-known trainer and coach Farah Al Aamri.
