Sharjah : Delhi Private School, Sharjah, has once again proved that they are unbeatable in inter-school basketball tournaments. In the final of the 20th New India Model School (Nims) basketball tournament they defeated hosts Nims, Sharjah 53-28 to win yet another trophy this year.
The DPS team has been creating waves in and outside the UAE and hosts Nims found them too strong.
Nims played aggressively in the first quarter and took an early lead but the experienced DPS team came back from behind to equal the score at the end of the first quarter 11-11.
Nims missed many free chances in the second quarter and an injury to Nims captain further weakened the squad and they continuously fumbled in the offence.
DPS swelled the lead to eight points at half time. They kept accelerating their lead by scoring 10 points against 2 in the third quarter and 18 against 9 in the last quarter. Kenneth Daniel Monis hogged the lime light top scoring with 16 points while Aashish Dugar netted 15 points for the winners.
Most valuable player
Aasish Dugar of Delhi Private School, Sharjah was rightly judged for the Most Valuable player of the tournament award. Mohammad Jasem of Nims, Sharjah Yellows team, won the promising player of the tournament award. Top scorer of the tournament award went to Abdullah Al Maqsoud of Nims, Sharjah.
Aslam Khan, principal, Nims-Dubai; K.R.S. Nair, director, students affairs, Nims, Dubai; Adil Islam, education technology coordinator, Nims principal Shaikh Jabbar Ali and headmaster Munir Chalil distributed the prizes to the finalists.
Golden Tiger Karate Centre, Sharjah, Vision Int'l Bldg. Cont, Ajman, Ar Arif Real Estate, Sharjah and Al Marai Juice were the supporters of 20th Nims Trophy tournament.
