Washington: American professional basketball player Derrick Rose has said that a lawsuit accusing him of sexual misconduct is untrue.

Chicago Bulls guard Rose is being sued by his ex-girlfriend, who has claimed that he and two of his friends drugged and gangraped her, reports Xinhua.

“I am just focusing on staying healthy and getting ready for the season,” Rose said in a statement on Thursday.

“I am not going to comment other than to say: I know the truth, and am confident I will be proven innocent.”

The lawsuit was filed by an unidentified woman who said she dated Rose from 2011 to 2013 and she accused Rose and his two friends of drugging her and gang-raping her in August 2013.

The Bulls released a statement early Thursday morning, saying: “We just learned about this matter and do not know all the facts. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

The woman is identified as Jane Doe in the suit. She is seeking unspecified damages in the alleged attack.

According to the court filing, Doe and Rose began a relationship after meeting at a party in 2011. They began exchanging text messages, which graduated to dinners and romance.

“Jane was drawn to Rose because he was reserved, quiet, and shy, which made him seem ‘safe’ for her to talk to,” according to the lawsuit. “Rose and [Doe] discovered they had many things in common: for example, they were both the ‘babies’ of their families, they both had protective parents who had hovered over them their whole lives, and they both did not enjoy the limelight.”

It’s unclear whether police investigated the allegations.
