Dubai: The Delhi Private School, Sharjah, boys' basketball team scored an emphatic 75-37 victory over Indian High School in the inter-school CBSE cluster tournament organised by Our Own English School, Al Warqa.
By winning the title, Delhi Private School have qualified for the Indian CBSE Nationals, to be held at the Emerald International School in Indore, from December 9-13.
The star of the final was DPS skipper Ahmad Hussain, who scored 24. Sidheek Razak too sparkled with 22 points, while Kunal Vohra scored 18 to guide the team to the winning mark.
DPS reached the final, trouncing Millennium School 57-12, and then went on to whip Ideal School, Ras Al Khaimah, 55-8. They also scored a comfortable 76-14 win over Leaders Private School, Sharjah.
Speaking to Gulf News after the match, the DPS team coach, T. Ali, said: "Our team dominated the tournament from the start. It has been mainly due to the hard practice every morning before school hours. We are happy to beat all our opponents comprehensively." Ali hopes to guide his team to victory in India as well.
Earlier, in the girls' event, Our Own English High School beat Indian High School 88-44 to also win the girls' CBSE Cluster basketball title and qualify to play in the Indore Nationals.
The star performers for the Our Own School team were skipper Garveeta, the tall and lanky Shruti S. Kumar and Anitha Teresa.
Rajan Job, the coach of the Our Own School, said: "We have qualified for the first time to play in the CBSE Nationals and all the girls are keen to give their best."
Job attributed his team's win to team coordination. "We have done very well this time because of our hard work before the tournament," he added.
Though Indian High School lost to Our Own, Henna stood out with a splendid performance. Out of the 44 points scored by Indian High School, Henna had 30 to her credit.
