Dubai: The Dubai Community Basketball League (DCBL) All Stars trounced the Blue Rhine Eagles India 62-34 in a friendly match aimed at raising funds for a Filipino cancer patient at the Zayed Bin Sultan Boys School, Satwa last week.
The star for the DCBL All Stars was Jojo Roque with a game-high 13 points, while Kent Lamique and Eric delos Santos added 10 points each. For the Blue Rhine Eagles, it was Usman Kunda leading the way with 12 points while Kevin Varghese chipped in with eight points.
“The exhibition game was a clear testament of camaraderie between Filipino and Indian expat communities in the UAE,” said DCBL governor Rante Bautista, organiser of the event.
“The DCBL-All Stars won with big margin but the real winner was Larry Castro, who is suffering from blood cancer. We were able to raise some funds for his bone marrow transplant and it’s not just the Filipino community who helped us but other expats as well,” Bautista added.
“It was a basketball match for a good cause,” said Blue Rhine Eagles coach Sunil Mathew.
